Journal Entry no 10: Project 3
November 15, 2011

For the final project of the semester, I started practicing transfers on different surfaces such as paper.
I printed out flags from the countries that students who are studying at st. Mary’s this semester. I didn’t want the topic of my project to be about the globe or cause some sort of political message so I decided to not even mess with that idea. As a reminder, the flags were just to practice image transfers and had no “intentional” meaning at all. I didn’t really have an idea to go begin with for this project. I know some of the students in the class were referring back or continuing what they were doing for the first project of the semester and I kind of didn’t know where to go with mines. I wanted to move away from it because I wasn’t really excited for the first project.

Practice one

For my second experiment, I was practicing my image transfers with silhouettes. (At this stage, I was getting a little closer to what I wanted to do for my final project.) I was messing around with transferring the silhouettes oh sheet metal and wood. I liked the sheet metal because the image seemed to turn out nicely. The image on the wood seemed to take a lot of work to get the image clean because of the left over paper.

At this stage of the project,  I was trying to figure out who the silhouette would be of, what the background was going to be, and what type of surface I was going to have the images placed on. Since I wasn’t able to come up with anything interesting or exciting to produce for this project, I just happen to unconsciously use what’s going on in my own life.

I liked how my image turned out on the sheet metal but I havent quite figured out how to incorporate the material into my project. so I decided to try transferring images to wood and plexiglass.
