Shadow

Synonyms for Shadow
Gloom, obscurity, adumbration, protection, shelter, umbrage, show around, spook,

I am interested in the shifting nature of light, and dark. Shadows have such a rich complexity to them. My personal experiences with light and shadow have changed a lot over time: I had a childhood fear of the dark and alarm at seeing my own shadow as i considered it a dark reflection of me, to shadows being a refuge in middle school, to becoming part of the shadows myself and learning the ways light can make an image in the dark and observing with my camera.
In the “Shadow” series, I attempt to merge the camera with my own form.  This is both to show how integral the camera is to my self-identity and to destroy the idea of the neutral machine. Machines can’t be neutral for they are made and operated by the never neutral human.  Our everyday tools and technology eventually become an extension of our selves. A fact we shouldn’t forget when looking at any photograph.
