Update 5.5.12

Site more or less complete. I might work on it more later but I probably won't have access to this server space forever. It was a fun project though.

Got about three more chapters finished of Salamander in rapid succession. I'm really happy I got to introduce the character Avskydde, not only because he's fun to write but because I think that he'll be a means to see some real character growth in Bryony. I had problems with her being so static in Wyvern, as Wyvern really ended up focusing more on Paley's growth, so it's a relief to see her undergoing some changes in this story. She's an interesting character- growing up with Volte made her have a very wyrm-like mindset that is actually quite ruthless and selfish. Volte has a similar mindset but as you will see he is actually more open to change than she is. Both of them are going to have some trials and tribulations with their personal beliefs, and Paley is too of course. The ending of this story is going to be quite interesting. Of course, we're not nearly there yet. But just so you know, the tale probably continues even after this book ends.

Update 4.24.12

More minor site updates. I forgot that the fun of computer science is that everything you add creates ten errors in things that previously worked. But that is ok I guess. Part of the process.

Managed to get another chapter of Salamander written, and another halfway done. It's weird how I'll suddenly get these bursts of inspiration. They usually happen at really inconvenient times, like right before NaNoWriMo starts, or in this case right before finals. Don't a lot of things in life work out this way? Anyway the story is progressing nicely. I think I'm going to put in some events earlier than I originally intended just to move things along. We haven't really gotten to the meat of the story yet and it's six chapters in haha. I'm pretty sure it's going to be longer than Wyvern. But that's ok, Wyvern was kind of testing my sea legs with these characters. I've really grown to like them and their relationships with one another, and I'm not normally a character-oriented person. Normally I'm all about the plot! I guess I still am, but I'm groing more and more interested in the weird ways people act when they'vre uncomfortable around one another. Haha.

One of the criticisms I recieved about Wyvern was that there wasn't enough development of Volte's character, and I agree. So you're really going to get into Volte's head this time around. I hope you like what you see.

Update 4.18.12

Still working with website issues. Site doesn't show up properly on most computer screens but that's ok. I got my internship! It's going to be a lot of work. It'll be good for me though because I'm terrible at working. (Hopefully my employers don't see this site.)

Wrote about 2,000 words of a new chapter for Salamander last night. Hoping to write the rest of the chapter when I get back tonight. I might not post it up right away though- I want to see if I can't create a surplus of words so I can get chapters up closer together. Of course I have plenty of other things to be doing for school that actually ought to be more important but... writing is more fun. I seem to do it best when I have a million other things I should be doing.

Update 4.16.2012

Publishing presentation at Creative Writing Club tonight at 9 PM.

More site updates. Terrible at this design thing but at least the animals look pretty.

School ends May 13. I might have an internship at an environmental consulting firm this summer. We'll be doing surveys on bat populations affected by white-nose fungus. Expect lots of stories about nighttime.

Thinking about working on Salamander. I know that's one a lot of my Fictionpress readers have been witing on with bated breath. Sorry! It's hard to find time to write when school and life have been so hectic. My grandfather recently passed away and it has been very hard to be creative. It's interesting how tragedies like this both pull your family together and push it apart at the same time. Maybe I'll write about something like that. Or maybe I'll write about Valravns, because they're more exciting.

But in all truth, Salamander is such a busy story that it's hard to write. I started it earlier than I should have because it was in such high demand. Now it has way too many characters! I'll have to cut some of them out eventually, but right now I think I'd better keep going as is. People will get mad at me if I start over. Haha. It's interesting when you get fans- I'm flattered, but you guys always tell me what to do! That's ok though. I'm just happy people like my work. I'll get something up eventually.
