In this piece of piece of art, my main intent was process. In this particular piece, the process was creating multiple wood joints at a 90° angle. The wood joints on the outer edges of the piece are 10° greater or less.
The piece is also a piece, which illustrates the idea of pieces coming into a whole. The wood joints are marching towards the final piece while showing the process, which leads to a whole. All of the smaller wood joints become part of the larger one showing the steps to get there.
----------------

Although this piece is not about the final product, the effect it has is that of an evolution or birthing of the pieces. The process shown here is about the individual pieces that make a whole.
I wanted to use wood as a material to build my sculpture. The pieces of wood that I chose had words printed on them and were the typical 2X4 pieces of plywood that one would find in a hardware store. I chose to make this piece very industrial looking by using large screws and choosing not to countersink them. By being able to see the screws gives the pieces a very industrial look.
This idea goes back to the basic concept of creating art from something anyone can go out and buy, and giving it a new meaning by attaching into different wood joints.
I started out by cutting the smaller pieces of plywood and attaching them with a nail gun so you couldn’t see how they were attached as easily. Then I moved onto the bigger pieces and attached these using large screws so the viewer could easily see them. The biggest part of my sculpture is created of wood joints mirroring each other and attached on top of one another, yet still keeping the 90° angle.

The end result definitely achieved what I hoped it would. The reception was that of an evolution piece and it was easily understood that the smaller pieces were a part of the larger one.
Given more time, I would like to expand this piece not only by increasing the scale, but by also adding more elements to it and making the transition of the smaller pieces to the larger one more easily read.
