first sketch of character for computer game

artist of interest: Shinichiro Watanabe

Watanabe is a Japanese anime filmmaker, and producer. He is most well known for his anime series Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo. I came across Watanabe because of his show Samurai Chamloo, because a hip hop dj/producer that I like, Nujabes, did some of the music for the series. I haven't watched a full episode but I watched some clips. The animation style that both his series have were interesting to me, and when left to creating a character for the video game I thought to use a similar style, and although my sketches are a lot less clean then his animation I still enjoyed looking over the style of animation.

Watanabe is also known for his method of fusing different types of styles and genres into his anime series, like with the series, Samurai Champloo, he takes hip hop music (in particular, very smooth melodic beats with dj scratching) and the culture of Okinawa to create the series. The mixture of the genres is also found in Cowboy Bebob with his use of western genre, jazz music, and Hong Kong action movies.
